It is the Company Policy to do all that is reasonable to prevent personal injury and damage to property and to protect everyone from foreseeable work hazards. Encouragement is given to all employees to fully participate in obtaining high standards of safety.
In particular the company is responsible for providing and maintaining all plant and equipment necessary to ensure safe systems of working are employed. All necessary information, instruction and training together with safety devices and personal protective equipment is made available and their use supervised.
Information on the organisation in the company, detailing the arrangements in support of its policy is made available to all its employees.
Additionally we employ a Health & Safety Consultant to monitor the Safety on our sites and to give safety lectures to our operatives and staff.

- Particular requirements of Sub-Contractors
- Risk Assessment, Control measures & COSHH
- Noise at work
- Asbestos
- Ionising radiations
Control measures are included for:
- Site Access and tidiness
- Working practices
- Confined spaces
- Excavations
- Working at heights
- Plant and tools
- Hot work
- Compressed fuels, gases and liquids
- Pressure testing
- Paint spraying
- Working with lead
- Demolition operations
- Railway working
These control measures and risk assessments are then tailored to meet individual site requirements.

The Company has adopted policies, procedures and processes which endeavour to minimise potential damage to the environment. It has resolved, wherever possible, to use products and work methods which minimise risk to employees and clients, as well as limit emissions and waste.
It is the policy of the Company to use vehicles which are limited in engine capacity to minimise emissions and maximise fuel use. The majority of vehicles utilise unleaded fuel, or are selected with diesel engines.
Our policy ensures that products in use by the Company are continually reviewed for replacement, where available, with environmentally acceptable cost effective alternatives, and that all waste arising from the activities of the companies is disposed of through approved and registered agencies.
All employees are aware of this policy and are encouraged to recommend action the company can adopt in extending a positive approach to environmental issues.
The Company recognises the important contribution which training makes to continuing efficiency and profitability. It further recognises that the prime responsibility for training rests with management. The training Manager is responsible for advising and assisting all Managers on training matters.
The Company’s training policy refers to all employees and aims to:
- Provide induction for new staff and for those transferred to new areas.
- Ensure appropriate training is available to enable individuals to reach and, through updating training, maintain satisfactory performance in their jobs.
- Provide the required training for those seeking promotion s that they are appropriately prepared for there new responsibilities.
- Ensure adequate training on Health and safety for all employees.
- Continually improve customer care.
Hitchmans Ltd provide a total building refurbishment and maintenance service to a wide range of clients. Emphasis is placed on customer service.
The quality operating procedures are reviewed as necessary thus advancing the existing high standards, eliminating the costs of rectification and ensuring that the specific requirements of each customer is met.
Hitchmans Ltd maintain an effective Quality Management System which is run in conjunction with other management functions. The Quality Procedures that are operated conform to contractual and regulatory requirements and are audited on the basis of objective evidence.
Through sound contract preparation, the purchasing of materials and equipment, and the operational activities are fully controlled. During the performance of services for the client, all relevant safety standards are maintained.
